Environmental Performance
Dixie has made significant strides in reducing wastes and air emissions as manufacturing activities have increased. Reasons for this success include:
- Modifying processes to use less hazardous chemicals
- Modifying process procedures to generate less waste
- Establishing recovery and recycling protocols for solvents
- Upgrading emission controls from vent condensers to flares
- Upgrading emission controls from vent condensers to thermal oxidizers
- Upgrading process instrumentation to minimize reaction waste
- Upgrading equipment to minimize emissions
- Electronic monitoring of equipment for fugitive emissions
- Changing protocols for unit shutdown if leaks detected
- Continuous improvement of emission control strategies
- Enhancing preventive maintenance program for minimization and elimination of equipment failures
- Establishment of an operator process training program more stringent than regulatory requirements demand for all chemical processes
|
| Dixie's current five year Pollution Prevention Plan targets further reductions through recovery and recycling projects and improvements to raw material acquisition practices. Pollution Prevention Teams meet regularly to develop new strategies and monitor progress ensuring the protection of the environment. |
