Dixie Chemical Sponsors Back the Blue 5K in Pasadena

On February 9, 2019, approximately 136 runners, including the Pasadena Police Cadet Class, participated in the Back the Blue 5K & Fun Run. The event was sponsored by the Pasadena Citizens Police Academy Alumni Associates (PCPAAA) and co-sponsored by Dixie Chemical Company. It was a fun-filled day at Campbell Hall and a great way to show support for our local men and women in blue!

Back the Blue 5K is a national organization that puts on races, with a portion of the revenue going to a local law enforcement agency or a police-supported charity. The Pasadena, Texas 5K and 1K Fun Run raised money for the Pasadena Police Department K9 unit.

Joseph Murphy founded Back the Blue 5K. As a former police officer, Murphy was injured in the line of duty and experienced firsthand a growing separation between law enforcement and the community. He started the organization with the goal of strengthening the bond between local police and their communities, all while raising money for these causes.

“More than anything, I want to repair the trust between local citizens and their neighbors in blue,” Murphy writes on the Back the Blue 5K website. “By bringing them all together for a day of family fun, we are able to show that police officers are ‘real people’ too.”

Local Support for a Local Cause

In addition to Dixie Chemical, the Pasadena Back the Blue 5K sponsors included several other Pasadena businesses, such as Eubanks Appraisals, Massage Heights and Moody Health Center. Chick-Fil-a and AT&T generously donated prizes to the male and female winners of both the 5K and the fun run. The Menchie’s Pasadena location was also at the race and donated a percentage of its frozen yogurt sales to the PCPAAA to help the Pasadena Police Department.

The event garnered support from the local government, as well as Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner, who was also on hand to support the cause.

Supporting the community is important to Dixie Chemical Company. Through events like Back the Blue 5K, Fill the Bus, Pasadena ISD Science Fair and others, Dixie gives back while encouraging the younger generations to explore careers in the chemical industry.
